Build #5: Day #4, Misc Items & Finish-Up

BUILD #5, Day #4: Saturday, October 2, 8:00-5:00

We’ll install door hardware, bath hardware, mirrors, bathroom grab bars, cabinet hardware, finish miscellaneous items, and touch-up paint.

We’ll need about 16 people.

Available Volunteer Jobs:

  • “Installers” - Install door, bath, and cabinet hardware. Hang mirrors.

  • “Assistants” - Paint touch-ups, ceiling tile grout, caulking where needed. Pretty much anything that needs to be done before we turn the keys over.

Equipment Needed: If you have and can bring the equipment below, let us know.

Wear closed-toed shoes and bring gloves. Volunteers should be 12 and over. There will be opportunities throughout the month for all skill levels.

Build #5: Day #5, Final Clean

BUILD #5, Day #5: Saturday, October 3, 9:00-1:00

There might be a few miscellaneous items left, but mostly this day will be doing a final, thorough clean - inside cabinets, all the floors, bathroom, dusting, and cleaning windows.

We’ll need about 8 people.

Available Volunteer Jobs:

  • “Window Cleaner” - Clean the windows inside and out.

  • “General Cleaner” - Thoroughly clean the house.

Equipment Needed: Bring your general cleaning supplies and window cleaning supplies

Wear closed-toed shoes and bring gloves. Volunteers should be 12 and over. There will be opportunities throughout the month for all skill levels.

Build #5: Day #3 Tile Continues

BUILD #5, Day #3: Friday, October 1, 8:00-5:00

We’ll finish installing the shower tile and install the kitchen backsplash. The countertops will be installed first thing in the morning so tile in the kitchen can not begin until after it is installed.

We’ll need about 6 people.

We’ll install the vinyl plank flooring.

We’ll need about 12 people.

  • “Cutters” - Measure and cut vinyl with utility knife.

  • “Installers” - Install the planks in place.

  • “Getters” - assist team and clean-up.

We’ll Install the Interior Trim which includes baseboard, window/door casing, and shelving.

We’ll need about 13 people.

  • “Cutters” - Using power tools, cut baseboard, casing, and shelving as instructed by “Installers.”

BUILD #3, Day #3: Sunday, September 19, 9:00-5:00

We’ll build and deck the front and back porches.

We’ll need about 12 people.

Available Volunteer Jobs:

  • “Assemblers” - Set gravel and posts in ground. Measure and instruct cutters. Assemble the deck.

  • “Cutters” - Using power tools, cut the posts, girders, joists, and decking as instructed by “Assemblers.”

  • “Nailers” - Secure pieces in place using a nail gun.

  • “Getters” - Assist the team and clean-up.

BUILD #3, Day #2: Saturday, September 18, 8:00-5:00

We’ll cut and hang the sheetrock. During the coming week, we’ll splurge and hire some professionals to tape, float, and texture.

We’ll need about 15 people.

  • “Installers” - Measure for cut-outs and overall size. Install the panels once cut.

  • “Cutters” - Cut as communicated by “Installers.”

  • “Getters” - Assist the team and clean-up.

We’ll insulate the house. We have to finish by early afternoon, in time for an inspection.

We’ll need about 10 people.

Deliver Prebuilt Components

Deliver Prebuilt Components to Worksite, Friday, September 3, 9:00-12:00

You’ll work with one of our Board Members, Charlie Jones to load the prebuilt walls and roof trusses and deliver them to the construction site.

We’ll need eight volunteers — two folks with 18-20’ trailers to haul the items and then another 6 people to load and unload the items. (Strong backs and muscles needed for this last job!)

Prebuild Construction

Saturday, August 28, 2021, 8:00 - 4:00

We have slots for multiple teams to prebuild specific components of the Home in a Month on August 28, 2021.

  • Team 1: Walls, interior and exterior - 18-20 volunteers. Two teams - “Cutting team” and “Assembly team”

  • Team 2: Roof Trusses - 18-20 volunteers. Two teams - “Cutting team” and “Assembly team”

This is the ideal project for a church group, a local club, or some neighbors who just want to do some bonding with each other. Gather a group of folks and register. Or register as an individual and we’ll pair you up.

Very specific plans and details about how to build each component as well as materials will be supplied.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: If you have the equipment listed below and can bring it with you, please bring it!

  • Chop/Miter Saw

  • Skill Saw

  • Nail Gun with Hose (Let us know what type of nails it takes)

  • Extension Cords

  • Sawhorses

  • Air Compressors

  • Tape Measures

  • Framing Squares

NOTE: This volunteer opportunity is only for High School and older volunteers. Check out our opportunities in September for all ages and skill levels.

Prebuild Layout & Precut

Prebuild Layout & Precut: Friday, August 27, 2021, 1:00 - 4:00

We need 8 volunteers to help Board Member, Chuck Lemmond layout and precut pieces to expedite the prebuild to be held on August 28.

On Friday, August 27, from 1:00-4:00 at the Presbyterian Church:

  • We will precut the header and base plates for walls.

  • Mark on these plates where the studs should be placed.

  • Precut studs and headers for windows and doors.

  • Layout and mark roof truss pieces for cutting and assembly the next day.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: If you have any of the following, please let us know if you can bring them when you volunteer. Just make a note in the message box below.

  • 2 chop saws (or miter saws)

  • 2 extension cords
